About Pharma Industry
The Indian Pharmaceutical Industry today is in the front ranks of India's science-based industries with wide ranging capabilities in the complex field of drug manufacture and technology. It ranks very high in the third world, in terms of technology, quality and range of medicines manufactured. Indian Pharmaceutical Industry ranks 4th in terms of total pharmaceutical production and 13th in terms of value all over the world. The state of Gujarat accounts for 40 percent of India's total pharmaceutical production and 17 percent of its exports. A few facts to consider before you decide if the pharmaceutical is the right career for you:

  • A highly organized sector, the Indian Pharmaceutical Industry is estimated to be worth more than US$ 6.0 billion, growing at a CAGR of 13% from 2002 – 2007, and is expected to grow at a CAGR of 16% over 2007 -2011.

  • India is among the top 5 Pharmaceutical Products producers, and is worlds third largest manufacturing industry.

  • Over the last two years the market value of pharmaceutical has increased to about US$ 355 million because of the launch of new products. According to an estimate, 3900 new generic products have been launched in the past two years.

  • India's top ten pharmaceutical companies have reported a record of 24.57% growth in their net profits during 2007-08 where as their bottom-line grew by 14.68% over 2006-07.

  • In Gujarat, the pharmaceutical industries are expected to attract investment of $1 – 2 Billion consistently till 2020.

  • Pharmaceutical Exports from India are expected to be around 35,000 crores this year, up 20% from last year.
    This clearly shows that this sector is recession proof.

Program Highlights
The PG program in Pharma at the Stevens is intensive, demanding, and designed just for those special few that aspire to the highest managerial positions in the pharmaceutical industry.

Program Objectives
The Post Graduate Program in Pharma at Stevens Business School aligns the academic needs of students and those of the pharmaceutical industry to ensure the curriculum is innovative, relevant and responsive to industry changes. The program integrates leadership, ethics, technology management and industry perspectives which are hallmarks of the distinctive Stevens Business School.
The objectives of this course are to teach pharmaceutical management to the graduates to become the successful managers in pharmaceutical industry by applying the fundamentals of management. Stevens B-School is actively engaged in the following:

  • To provide a specialized, high quality education to make the students true professionals in pharmaceutical business and industry

    To improve the quality, talent and skills of individuals to help them lead their lives as successful pharmaceutical management professionals
  • To explore the frontiers of knowledge from the industry through various aspects, as well as in collaboration with other entities in pharmaceutical business having similar goals

Course Curriculum
The PGP (Pharma) at Stevens is divided into Level 'A' and Level 'B' . Level 'A', which is 11 months in duration, is designed to teach core concepts and in-depth knowledge of General Management. After completion of Level A, students go in for Level B, which is again 11 months in duration, which will include a 8 weeks professional training at a pharmaceutical company.
